The Ponds are fishing excellently
There have been some tremendous catches at the Ponds in recent weeks from both pleasure and match anglers. One guy, fishing for bream with the feeder at peg 7 on Bircliffe landed seven tench to 4lbs, while another had a 5lbs plus fish before going on to catch more than 30 crucians. In fact tench seem to be showing everywhere with some really good fish from the New and Kingfisher Ponds.
The Gt. Pond is also producing some outstanding match weights with peg 58 providing winning weights of 27lbs 10ozs for Mick Hospodyniuk who fished simple waggler and maggot method and for Dave Lawton who used the pole two weeks later to land 28lbs 13ozs. And both anglers lost a number of big tench too. But some of the best results have come in the Tuesday evening matches where 20lbs is commonplace and Mick Barry dominated until the last week when the top four weights were 29lbs 12ozs, 27lbs, 26lbs 2ozs, and 24lbs, with all species being caught! And yet despite this and every effort being made to accommodate angler’s wishes these matches are poorly attended and yet the cost, just £7, is no more than the cost of a day ticket at local commercial fisheries.
