Ain’t it cold!
Last week’s Winter League was cancelled because of the bad weather, but considering the conditions, it has been more by good luck than good judgement that the two prior to that one were held.
Snow, ice, and frozen ponds have made a mess of sport generally throughout the region and many anglers, even at commercials, have suffered the indignance of not having a bite or having to scrat about for a few roach. One lucky angler, but he’s good too, did manage to land two 6lbs barbel and three chub from the Don last week, and Ken Wydell has been winkling a few roach and perch from the Bridge and Bircliffe Ponds recently, but overall it has been awful.
Neil Gabbitas, pictured, was the winner of the last match to be fished, with a surprisingly good 10lbs 14ozs net of predominantly skimmer bream, caught with the feeder at peg 70. Stuart Senior took second place leaving Trevor Parkin and father Don in third and fourth places.
