Environment Agency staff braved the winter snows this week to collect and deliver 1500 barbel from the Agency’s Fish Farm at Calverton to the Don at Kilnhurst. The fish were part of the ongoing restocking plan for the river following the major pollution in 2006.
Each fish was marked with an orange mark on its’ head to so that they can be identified as coming from this batch in future, either by anglers or during fisheries survey work. (Similar introductions have had the same type of marking but a different colour. News/New Don stocks)
As ever the quality of the fish was outstanding. Just look at the size of the two below and remember they are only 1+ years old!
