Help brings new stock to the ponds
We recently loaned the Environment Agency’s Fish Breeding Unit at Calverton 19 tench to use as part of their national 2016 breeding programme. Just two weeks later those fish were returned and put back into the ponds. Less than a month later, and by way of a thank you, the Agency guys returned more than 100,000 of their offspring to us, three quarters of which were stocked into the Kingfisher with the rest both going into the old stock pond. Neither of these have any perch present which should greatly help their survival. Pictures below show the fish being inspected prior to stocking. They’re only small but have you ever seen so many tench?
Hopefully later in the year we may receive some of their bigger brothers and sisters.
