This Spring the Environment Agency’s fish farm at Calverton in Nottinghamshire, which suppies fish to all over England in order to restock waters, ‘borrowed’ a number of rudd to spawn in their fish rearing facilities. Subsequently the original fish were returned safe and sound. Within weeks hundreds of thousands of fry were hatched and will be grown on prior to despatch during the next year or so.

This week by way of a thank you a consignment of tiny rudd, no bigger than 2cm were returned to Ravenfield and have been placed in the Carp Pond to grow before being removed to other waters. In addition 500 small crucian carp, not unlike the ones stocked into the ‘new’ stock pond in November 2008, were also relocated in both the old stock pond and in Baker’s.
